It’s hard to believe, but Tuesday marked the one-month anniversary of us officially moving to Florida! In some ways it has flown by, but the unpacking and settling process seems to be taking forever. It didn’t help that our brother-in-law was in town the first week we were here, then we both flew back to Omaha (me for a weekend, Kurtis for a week), and then Bailey ended up in the hospital once we started getting in a groove. But, we’re beyond thrilled to be here and have really tried to make the most of the gorgeous weather – which was the main reason we moved here!
Today I’m sharing our Florida coastal cottage home tour as it looks today in honor of our one-month anniversary. We still have a lot to do, but I figured I’d snap some quick iPhone photos of the place to show you around before I start hauling out all the Christmas decor! Some areas are starting to come together, and other areas are still a bit chaotic. But we both agreed that this week finally felt normal and like we’re getting much more settled. We even cooked several dinners at home!
Back in August, I shared the initial home tour while it was still empty. The post has a lot more details about the house itself if you’re interested. The wall color throughout is Sherwin Williams Snowbound. In September, I shared some of my initial Florida coastal cottage design plans to give you a feel for how we were thinking we’d decorate. Today I’m not necessarily sharing the results of those plans, but rather, where things ended up and some of the little updates we’ve made here and there. There’s a little bit of real life thrown in as well 😉 I’m hoping to then share a Christmas home tour in the coming weeks (you can see my plans for that here)!

So, let’s get to the mini tour! Here is how our entryway currently looks. It’s a small little nook that’s perfect for a console table and mirror. I need to add a little bowl for keys and other catchall type items.

The best part? I opened the door in the photo above so you could see the color, but also because the space is too tight to photograph without me on the porch. But really because I had this going on behind the scenes. Ha! #reallife I’ve been stashing this year’s ornaments (most are found in this post) behind the door until I’m ready to decorate. Which will most likely start this weekend!
Off the entryway space, we have the living room to the right and the kitchen to the left. Back in August when we brought a load of our stuff down, we swapped out the original pendant lights for these designer look for less fixtures and love them! And although we had two sets of counter stools with backs from Omaha, we felt like these backless stools worked better in this space since the living room is only a few feet behind them.

In our living room, the layout is very similar to our home in Omaha. We added this rug in the past week, and we both immediately commented how much more cozy (and distinct) each of the spaces feel. Our furniture no longer feels like it’s floating in here!
Our sofas are definitely a bit large for the space, but we’re making them work because we still love them so much! Fun fact: since our coffee table (which used to be in our den and then the pool house) has a removable top, we’re storing my Christmas tree collars inside!
We bought a Frame TV during the last sale, so we’re hoping to get that swapped out this weekend. We’ll move this one that came with the house up to the loft area.

As you could see in the photos above, our dining room is directly behind our living room. It’s fairly spacious but has the doors leading to our bedroom as well as out to the catio, so the dining portion is a bit off-center.
I ordered these chairs for the space since we already owned the armchair version and loved them so much.

Here’s a peek at the screened-in patio (catio). The weather has been so beautiful since our arrival and we have gotten so much use out of it! Most mornings we’ll just leave the back door open and the cats can come in and out as they please. They usually just stay out though 😉

Moving back inside, our bedroom door is to the left of the catio door. I’m loving the view of our bedroom from this angle! It looks somewhat finished and complete! The art was a major splurge for me during their Labor Day Weekend Sale, but at the time we were knee-deep in packing and I felt justified in using some of our furniture funds to buy it. It was the right decision. The piece is absolutely stunning. The art is floating on linen and mounted in an acrylic shadow box frame. The colors are so saturated and beautiful.
But it’s still a bit of a storage room for mirrors that need to be hung, and I haven’t done any decorative elements with our bedding. It’s super close though and I’m loving the neutral foundation right now!

Here’s a reminder of the plans I want to create (incorporating the art) for the new build! I think I’ll hold off on ordering a blue bed until we move there, simply because we don’t have the storage space right now to hold another bed.

That wraps up our first floor. We have a half second floor with two bedrooms that we use for each of our home offices. They’re connected with a small loft space in the front middle and then a Jack & Jill bathroom in the back (what we’re using as the cat room).
So, if you were thinking things were looking pretty good at this point, welcome to the loft. Ha! We knew this would have to be storage for some carryover furniture (since we can use it in the next house). Unfortunately most of it is still where the movers dumped it. But the great news is those are the last three boxes in the entire house (and most of the contents are going to Hola Beaches)! I obviously just threw a bunch of pillow inserts here recently too and need to get those cleaned up. I’m only showing you this because if you’ve moved recently or will be in the near future, it definitely takes time to get everything 100% how you want it! If you have to have one disaster zone for a month or two, so be it! We essentially found we had to focus on the rooms we use every day, and neglect the others for the time being. But we’re now ready to tackle this space (and rest of the upstairs) in the coming week!
On the left of the image above is my office. The rest of my office furniture is still on backorder, so I’ve been working from a six foot card table. Not ideal, but it totally works! Clearly I cleaned up for this photo 😉 Shockingly, this looks so much better than it did even a week ago! This photo was taken wide angle so you could see the full space. It’s definitely not quite as big as it looks in the photo.
To the right is Kurtis’ office and where we set up our old bed. We don’t anticipate having guests stay here while we live here because of the cat room bathroom (we’ll have them stay at Hola Beaches). But it was easier to get this set up so it was that many less things to chaotically store in the loft! We still need to swap out the light fixture (and get rid of the swag) and possibly add a rug (more for my benefit so Kurtis’ voice on conference calls is a bit more muffled). Other than that, we plan to keep it pretty simple while we live here!

it really looks so amazing, especially in such a short period of time? This is temporary while you are building? I was wondering if you put this much work into a rental home, or if you own this home. We are in a rental home while we build and we are barely unpacking, have most things in storage. good luck with your build, excited to see it progress.
Thank you so much Karen! We actually bought the home, since we’ll likely be here for over a year. We weighed the pros and cons of renting, but there is a major shortage of long-term rentals here because of the vacation homes. With the cats, it was probably going to cost us just as much to rent. We’ll reevaluate when our new build is done, but we’ll likely keep this house as a long-term rental (we have an investment property company). Or depending on the market, we may try and sell at that time. Just kind of taking it day by day! At this point we don’t have a storage unit, so I needed to get it all unpacked for our sanity 🙂 The good news is, our new build is in the same neighborhood, so it will hopefully be an easy move!
