Coastal Guest Bedroom Refresh

Decorating Ideas, Tips and Trends, Room Makeovers + Design Plans

It’s hard to believe, but our guest bedroom sat undecorated for nearly a year! But, when we recently wallpapered the adjoining bathroom (you can read about that here), I wanted to get the bedroom itself looking better, as well! Today I’m sharing a quick guest bedroom refresh, just in time for holiday guest arrivals!

This post is sponsored by Wayfair and contains affiliate links for your shopping convenience. As always, all thoughts and opinions are my own. You can read my full disclosure policy here.

Coastal Guest Bedroom: The Before

Here is a peek at how our only guest bedroom in our house looked for the past year+. It was basically the recipient of things we didn’t use in other spaces, so it was by no means decorated. Since our guests have historically always stayed in the carriage house, this room was neglected and not a priority on our to-do list. But, we’ve had a few situations over the past year where we needed an extra bed when the carriage house was full or when we may have a solo guest that doesn’t need the full living space and it’s easier to stay with us. Now that the bathroom has been wallpapered, I was really wanting to make the room a lot more appealing too!

Fun fact: we don’t allow the cats in this room (the door is always shut) but somehow, the only two pics I have of the space before include the little opportunists 😉 Here is how the space looked before today’s little refresh. Functional, but pretty uninspiring and boring.

Coastal Guest Bedroom Bedding

Here’s how the space looks now! I’m calling this a refresh rather than a makeover because it was never really “made” to begin with. We still have some work to do, but I love the progress so far! Side note: the immediate next step needs to be finally buying a shorter box spring for this bed we’ve owned for five+ years. You can find a nearly identical bed frame here.

A coastal guest bedroom featuring a white upholstered bed, luxe bedding, a seashell mirror, blue grid rug, scalloped wicker chandelier, palm print wallpaper, and a light wood dresser.

With the bold palm print pattern we used on the adjoining bathroom walls, I wanted to keep the bedding timeless, clean and serene but also not boring. Although it’s still mostly all-white, I used different textures and more layers.

I selected bedding from Wayfair’s RE/FINE brand, an exclusive collection of bedding, bath, and hosting essentials. This collection features premium materials and is designed to be a go-to capsule for your home and hosting needs.

I’ve always loved the understated, casual elegance of hotel bedding. When I saw this sateen hotel stripe duvet cover set I knew it would be perfect for the space. I accidentally left it in the dryer for a few hours after washing it, and was surprised I didn’t have to iron or steam it afterwards! I selected this all-season down-alternative insert to pair with the cover. Although it can get cold here in the winters, it’s not cold enough that we need super heavy inserts, so an all-season option makes more sense!

Little luxuries like layered bedding help guests feel more at home. Not knowing how each person sleeps, I love to have multiple layers they can customize to their own needs for a good night’s sleep! Waffle knit blankets are always a favorite layer of mine, and help an all-white foundation have more texture and plushness. These brushed organic cotton percale sheets are so soft and I love the thicker, labeled elastic on the fitted sheet!

I finished the look off with these cute block print throw pillow covers! I always love when I can find covers instead of pillows with sewn in fill or inserts. They’re easier to store and then I can re-use my own inserts. They come in five color options and I was very happy with the quality and size!

This brand had so many cute options, I actually ordered extras for our beach house rentals! Here were some of my favorite pillow cover finds I considered!

Coastal Guest Bedroom Furniture & Accessories

We’ve had this 4-drawer dresser for three or four years and it was one of the few that made the trip down to Florida! Our guest bedroom is pretty small, and the layout with three separate doors and three windows makes furniture placement challenging. But this dresser fits perfectly between these windows opposite the bed! The seashell mirror was a second-hand find from a local consignment shop. I bought it for Hola Beaches Casita, but loved it so much I decided we need it at our house!

Can you believe that outside of the can lights, I never even added a light fixture in this room until a month or so ago?!? Light fixtures are always a favorite search for me, so I shocked myself a bit by taking so long to find one. But I absolutely love this scalloped wicker option!

It feels great to finally have this bedroom feel like a real space, even if it took over a year!
